East Village Arts (EVA) will support the Ukranian effort with a benefit concert of Russian, Ukrainian, and Eastern European music to raise awareness and funds for the situation in Ukraine. As music is a universal language and a powerful connector, EVA will present artists from both Russia and Ukraine in an effort to show that human beings must come together for the greater good of the people. The concert will feature poet and musician, Russian born Misha Feigin in Concert with Birmingham’s LaDonna Smith (with  Alina Tuganova) in a concert of free-improvisations. The two have worked and toured together on the international free-improvisation concert scene for nearly 30 years!

where they have continued the human services work 

they began as Panthers for decades. 


On September 29th, we'll host a night of poetry at East Village Arts, and we're raising funds for HELLO TANA 

and their work to preserve Mama C and Mzee Pete O'Neal's legacy via the O'Neal Legacy Project.

John McMahon

John McMahon is a singer/songwriter,  from Champaign, Illinois. He has brought his thought-provoking lyrics and inimitable voice to the Chicago area scene for over 20 years.


In addition to playing solo acoustic shows, he plays around central Illinois with The Painkillers Blues Band and Indie-rock band, Jimi Dragonfly.


 You can expect to hear songs from John's 3 cds: Dumptruck of Love (2007), Black and Red (2018), and Kaskaskia (2021). 


You can also expect to hear

Julie Shum, director of EVA,

who is a former bandmate, lending harmonies to John for much of the show.
