A HISTORIC HOME FOR CREATIVITY

Built in 1928 as the East Lake Theater, EVA’s 8,000-square-foot building has been reimagined as a welcoming hub for artists and the community. Every detail—from the reclaimed materials to the one-of-a-kind studio designs—tells a story of creativity, sustainability, and care.

Inside EVA you’ll find:

•   12 uniquely designed artist studios

•   Dedicated space for flat art and sculpture

•   A 20’ x 50’ wooden performance stage with a green room

•   Two large classrooms and a conference room

•   Patio and green space

•   Welcoming common areas with cafe seating, kitchen, and hospitality spaces

By helping secure this building, donors preserve a piece of Birmingham’s history and ensure a permanent, one-of-a-kind home where creativity and community thrive.

Art organizations strengthen the social and economic fabric of communities.

Building the Future, Rooted in the Past

East Village Arts is at a pivotal moment

to secure its future as a permanent home for creativity and community in Birmingham’s East Lake business corridor.

Through a generous purchase arrangement, we purchased the historic East Lake Theater building, locking in long-term stability and unlocking access to critical grants.

With your support, we will preserve this landmark, renovate the building, and expand EVA’s reach in hosting visual, performing, and literary programs  that nurture artists and community, not just for today but for for generations to come.

East Village Arts Birmingham is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization

Founded in 2019, EVA empowers artists to grow their practice, offers a place to connect through the arts, and serves as a catalyst for cultural and economic revitalization in East Lake.

As a nonprofit, EVA is publicly owned—every donor, artist, and community member becomes a co-steward of this space. Supporting EVA is more than funding programs; it is investing in a permanent, community-driven arts center that enriches lives, fosters belonging, and ensures that the arts remain accessible to all.

Giving Opportunities

Now is the moment to partner with East Village Arts to anchor Birmingham’s creative community and fuel East Lake’s renewal.

In securing and sustaining our home, EVA will do more than host programs.

Affordable studios will allow artists to build sustainable careers; exhibitions and performances will give new voices a stage; mentorships and workshops will inspire the next generation; and festivals will draw communities together across cultures and traditions.

By anchoring this work in a permanent home, EVA strengthens the fabric of community life while fueling the cultural and economic revitalization of East Lake.
