Strike Three String Trio

Birmingham violinist and violist, LaDonna Smith, will be joined by violinists Gabby Fluke-Mogul and Alex Cunningham (from NYC and St. Louis, respectively), for a first-time trio of richly textured string improvisation. Alex Cunningham is a violinist, improvisor, and visual artist based in St. Louis, MO. His recorded output spans free improvisation, drone, noise, and minimalist composition. Gabby fluke-mogul is a Brooklyn-based violinist, improviser, composer, educator, organizer, and doula. Weaving within experimental threads of improvised music, their playing has been described as “embodied, visceral and virtuosic” and “the most striking sound in improvised music in years. LaDonna has been practicing extended violin techniques & pioneering free improvisation around the globe for more than 30 years. Also featured will will be a guest performance by New York/Ashville NC jazz guitarist exra-ordinaire Kris Gruda and the sonic electronics and mystical vocals of Birmingham's NOBLE.  The classical string group, QUEERTET will open the show.
