Where Creativity Finds a Home: Artist Studios and Venues
The historic East Village Arts building—an 8,000-square-foot creative hub in Birmingham’s East Lake neighborhood—is being renewed as a beacon for art, collaboration, and community life. Supported through local and state arts grants and the generosity of our donors, the renovation of this landmark space ensures that creativity will continue to anchor East Lake for generations to come.
EVA offers two primary ways for artists and community members to connect with and use the space: Artist Studios and Venue Space.
Our artist studios are the heart of EVA where painters, sculptors, photographers, writers, and makers of all kinds create and collaborate. Each studio is unique in size and layout, reflecting the building’s historic architecture and the diversity of the artists who work here.
Resident artists enjoy affordable studio rates, access to shared work areas and equipment, and a creative environment grounded in support, exchange, and visibility. The studios are more than workspaces—they are sanctuaries of imagination and anchors of community life, open during EVA’s events and Open Studio days for the public to engage with Birmingham’s vibrant creative scene.
Beyond the studios, EVA offers flexible rental spaces ideal for performances, exhibitions, meetings, and workshops. Whether you’re hosting a concert, gallery opening, rehearsal, lecture, or community gathering--the historic building provides adaptable areas designed for artistic and social connection.
Spaces include a large performance hall with stage and seating, two multi-purpose classrooms for group activities for creative instruction, and a gallery/exhibition hall suitable for receptions or showcases.
EVA’s venue rentals help sustain our mission by reinvesting all proceeds back into programming, building improvements, and support for local artists.
Choosing EVA means more than renting a venue—
it means investing in the creative future of Birmingham.
